Let's face it, these little creatures have a way of crawling into our hearts. A custom pet portrait makes for a very creative gift for the pet lover in your life. They are also make for a thoughtful memorial for a lost pet.
My pet portraits are hand painted on cradled wood panels. They look great hanging directly on the wall or in a frame. Frame not included.
These paintings typically take me about two weeks depending on my workload and the size of the finished piece.
How does it work?
- We'll start with a conversation. Send some photos of your pet to hello@nicobarclay.com. Then we can chat and decide on a pose, setting, size and background.
- You'll then return to this page and place your order. Once I see the order come through, I will begin painting.
- I'll check in with you a couple times during my process with sketches and painting progress. You will have a maximum of 2 reviews.
- Once we are both happy, I will ship the painting to you!

How long will it take to receive my portrait?
The painting typically takes about 2 weeks depending on workload and size, plus shipping time. Local Boise pickup is available at Idaho Made in downtown Boise.
What happens after I place my order?
After emailing photos to hello@nicobarclay.com and placing your order, you'll receive sketches and progress updates 2 times during the painting process (maximum 2 reviews).
What kind of photos should I send?
High-resolution, well-lit photos work best. Multiple angles are helpful. Close-ups showing your pet's eyes and facial features clearly are ideal.
Can I combine multiple pets in one portrait?
Yes! Just email hello@nicobarclay.com to discuss pricing and composition.
Can you work from old or lower-quality photos?
It depends on the photo quality. Email the images and we can discuss if they'll work for a portrait.
Can I choose the background?
Absolutely! We'll discuss background options during our initial conversation before you place your order.
What if I don't like something during the review process?
You have up to 2 review opportunities where you can request changes to the painting before it's finalized.
What are the paintings created on?
Hand-painted on cradled wood panels using high-quality acrylic paints.
Do I need to frame it?
No, the cradled wood panels look great hung directly on the wall. However, they can also be framed if preferred (frame not included).
Do you only paint dogs and cats?
No! I paint all types of pets including horses, birds, rabbits, and other animals. Just email to discuss your pet.
How is the portrait shipped?
Your portrait will be carefully packaged with protective materials and shipped via USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground (depending on size). You'll receive a tracking number once it ships. Local Boise customers can use promo code "LOCAL" for free delivery and pick up at Idaho Made in downtown Boise.
What if the portrait arrives damaged?
Please inspect your portrait upon arrival. If there's any damage during shipping, take photos and contact me at hello@nicobarclay.com within 48 hours. I'll work with you to file a claim and either repair or replace the portrait at no additional cost to you.
Can I return or exchange a custom portrait?
Since each portrait is custom-created specifically for you, I cannot accept returns or exchanges. However, I include up to 2 review checkpoints during the painting process to ensure you're happy with the direction before completion. If you have any concerns after receiving your portrait, please reach out and I'll do my best to make it right.
